Local Favorites

Picking a location is one of the first things couples ask me about, and it makes a big difference in how your photos turn out. The right spot matches your personality, looks great in the light, and gives you room to relax and enjoy each other instead of feeling stuck in front of a camera.

Northwest Arkansas has a lot to work with: lively downtown streets, polished gardens, quiet lakes, and rugged Ozark scenery. Here are my favorite places for engagement and couples sessions, with what each one is best for.

Why Your Engagement Photo Location Matters More Than You Think

Your location does more than provide a background — it sets the entire tone of your photos. The right location creates natural movement and interaction, impacts lighting, color, and mood, helps you feel relaxed instead of awkward, and ells a story that actually reflects your relationship A great photographer can work anywhere, but choosing a location that fits your personality makes your photos feel effortless instead of forced.

1. Bentonville Square and Downtown Bentonville

Best for: couples who love a lively, local feel. Best season: spring and fall, with soft evening light

The Square gives you brick streets, string lights, storefronts, and a small-town charm that photographs beautifully. Downtown also has colorful murals and alleyways that add variety without needing a second location. Early mornings or weekday evenings are the best times if you want fewer people in the background.

2. Crystal Bridges Museum Grounds

Best for: couples who want modern, natural, and a little artsy. Best season: late spring through fall

The grounds around Crystal Bridges mix wooded trails, ponds, bridges, and architecture, so you get lots of different looks in one place. Tanyard Creek is close by, so the two pair well if you want even more variety. It's a good fit if you want a mix of lush greenery and clean, modern lines. Rules around professional photography on the grounds can change, so it's worth checking before you plan your session.

3. Tanyard Creek Nature Trail

Best for: couples who want a wooded, creekside setting without leaving Bentonville. Best season: spring for fresh green, fall for color

Tanyard Creek is one of my go-to spots when a couple wants something natural and a little secluded. Shaded paths, trees, and the creek give you soft, even light and plenty of room for walking shots and candid moments. It's a good pick for midday sessions, since the tree cover keeps the light flattering, and it's easy to reach from the rest of Bentonville.

4. Osage Park

Best for: couples who want open green space and a relaxed, easygoing feel. Best season: spring through fall, especially golden hour

Osage Park offers open grass, trees, and a calm, unhurried setting for couples who don't want anything too staged. It's great for playful, candid photos: walking, laughing, and sitting together, with golden hour light filtering through the trees. It's also a good fit if you'd like a quieter alternative to the busier spots downtown.

5. Compton Gardens and Conservatory

Best for: a quiet, garden-style session close to Bentonville. Best season: spring for blooms, fall for color

Compton Gardens is a smaller, calmer spot with flowering plants, paths, and shaded areas. It's a good pick if you want something soft and romantic without a long drive.

6. Lake Fayetteville

Best for: couples who want water, trails, and golden hour light. Best season: fall and spring

Lake Fayetteville has open water, boardwalks, and wooded trails that work well for walking, candid moments, and sunset portraits. It's easy to get to and offers enough variety for a full session without moving around much.

7. Botanical Garden of the Ozarks (Fayetteville)

Best for: couples who love flowers and a polished, peaceful setting. Best season: spring through early fall

The garden has themed areas, walking paths, and plenty of color. It's ideal if you want lush backgrounds and a more romantic, gentle feel. Check ahead for admission and photography policies.

8. Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area

Best for: couples who want a natural, wooded setting near Beaver Lake. Best season: fall for color, spring for green

Hobbs is a great choice if you like the outdoors and want a more relaxed, adventurous feel. Wooded trails, overlooks, and soft light through the trees make it easy to get natural, candid shots. State parks may have their own rules for professional photography, so check before booking.

9. Devil's Den State Park

Best for: adventurous couples who want dramatic Ozark scenery. Best season: fall and spring

Rock formations, creeks, bluffs, and forest give this spot a big, cinematic feel. It's a longer drive from Bentonville and Fayetteville, but it's worth it if you want something different from a typical city session. Wear comfortable shoes, and expect a bit of walking.

10. Eureka Springs and the Buffalo River

Best for: couples who want a getaway feel. Best season: fall for color, spring for green

Eureka Springs has historic streets, stone walls, and a quirky, romantic character. The Buffalo River area offers wide-open bluffs and river views for a more adventurous look. Both take longer to reach, so they work best for a longer or more special session.

I photograph engagement and couples sessions across Northwest Arkansas, and I plan locations, timing, and details ahead so you can relax and just be yourselves. If you're newly engaged or just want photos of the two of you, reach out and tell me a little about you both. I'd love to help you pick the perfect spot.
